About Our Organisation

The Water Authority of Fiji is a corporate body established under the Water Authority of Fiji Act 2007 to make provision for the effective management and administration of the Water and the wastewater systems.

We are responsible for providing access to quality drinking water and wastewater services to over 159,000 and 33,540 residential and non-residential metered customers in the urban areas of Fiji and also setting up water supply systems in rural areas.

Position Objective

The Graduate Trainee is responsible for providing effective and efficient human resources administrative support to the Senior HRO and the Head of HR Operations this includes the recruitment and selection process so that WAF always has the appropriate skills-based workforce.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Effective recruitment process fully supported
    • Human Resources administration work relating to staff resignation is handled efficiently and professionally at all times
    • Staff resignations are confirmed and verified by authorized managers or supervisor
    • Resignation notice prepared with payroll notified timely
    • Clearance provided to resignation staff and terminated staff and are compliant with WAF and HR policies
    • Exit interview process conducted
    • Certificate of services provided
  2. Effective contract management process fully supported
    • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and managing employee contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements
    • Assist HR unit in ensuring timely contract renewals, preparation, and issuance of end-of-contract letters for Project and Established staff
    • Assist the HR unit in probationary review, appointment confirmation, Performance Improvement plan, and acting appointments
    • Track and update the respective contractual management trackers on the allocated drive promptly
    • Coordinate the communication of contractual terms and conditions to employees, ensuring clarity and understanding
    • Ensure all respective letters and forms are filed and maintained according to company records and confidentiality standards
    • Assist in ad-hoc HR projects, data management, and reporting related to contract management
  3. Timely, relevant, and compliant reporting
    • All internal and external (if any) reporting requirements in regard to WAF's HR function and human capital management approach are fully understood and correctly executed
      • Robust and relevant periodic reports prepared and submitted as and when requested
        • Superiors provided with useful information combined with analysis and interpretation, for decision making
      • Ad-hoc information requests by superiors addressed promptly
  4. Teamwork and cooperation
    • Cooperation within the team and greater function/department encouraged
    • Cooperation across functions/departments ensured
    • Collaboration and leadership to achieve relevant organizational targets and goals
    • Other related duties assigned by the HR Officer effectively and efficiently addressed
  5. Organisational values upheld and demonstrated at all times
    • Support toward the alignment of deliverables to organizational values and strategic directions ensured
    • Organisational values and good corporate and governance practices are complied with in delivering outcomes ensured
Qualification and Experience Requirement
  • Degree in Management/ Human Resources Management or relevant discipline, Industrial Relations
  • Minimum of 6 months of relevant work experience in Human Resource and Industrial Relations
Skills and Abilities
  • A high level of written and spoken English is essential, with good communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to plan for and meet tight deadlines, often managing multiple outputs specifically regarding recruitment and selection and managing varying contractual timelines and activities
  • Working knowledge of the Fiji Employment laws and regulations
  • Capacity to utilize computer programs to support the operation of the HR unit and display an accepted level of managerial abilities
  • High level of attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and neutrality in a sensitive environment
