About Our Organisation

The Water Authority of Fiji is a corporate body established under the Water Authority of Fiji Act 2007 to make provision for the effective management and administration of the Water and the wastewater systems.

We are responsible for providing access to quality drinking water and wastewater services to over 159,000 and 33,540 residential and non-residential metered customers in the urban areas of Fiji and also setting up water supply systems in rural areas.

Position Objective

The Supervisor Fleet is responsible for supporting the Team Leader Fleet in overseeing the full spectrum of fleet operations, administration, and policy implementation at the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF). This role ensures the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of WAF’s vehicle fleet. Key responsibilities include coordinating daily vehicle and driver activities, managing maintenance schedules, and optimizing transport routes to meet service delivery requirements. By monitoring fleet performance and driving strategic improvements, the Supervisor Fleet enhances operational reliability and cost-effectiveness. The role also focuses on minimizing downtime and extending vehicle lifespan through proactive planning and logistical coordination. Ultimately, this position plays a vital role in ensuring seamless service execution and contributes directly to WAF’s commitment to excellence in customer service. The Supervisor Fleet reports to the Team Leader Fleet.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Effective Maintenance and Operation of the WAF Fleet
    The Supervisor Fleet is responsible for ensuring that all WAF vehicles and machinery are maintained and operated in full compliance with relevant laws and internal policies. This includes:

    • Ensuring all fleet assets are properly registered, licensed, tested, and maintained to meet regulatory standards.
    • Planning, organizing, and supervising all activities related to the procurement, servicing, operation, maintenance, and repair of WAF vehicles.
    • Guaranteeing that all vehicle-related functions align with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and organizational procedures.
    • Monitoring and prioritizing maintenance and repair schedules to ensure timely execution and minimal disruption.
    • Coordinating off-site maintenance and roadside recovery operations to ensure swift response to vehicle malfunctions.
    • Minimizing incidents of accidents, injuries, misuse, or damage to fleet vehicles and machinery through proactive oversight and safety measures.
    • Providing timely, accurate, and relevant technical advice to the Team Leader Fleet regarding fleet performance and operational needs.
    • Assisting in the development and implementation of fleet-related policies, procedures, and strategic programs.
      After-Hours Fleet Support:
    • Arranging drivers and operators to transport machinery to designated work sites as required.
    • Coordinating water carting operations using WAF-owned water carts to support drought-affected or water-disrupted areas.
    • Ensuring timely deployment and retrieval of Mobile Tower Lights (MTLs) for work sites.
      Procurement and Strategic Input:
    • Actively participating in the Tender Evaluation Committee to ensure the acquisition of fleet assets that meet operational needs and budgetary constraints.
  2. Professional Development for Fleet Operators and Drivers
    The Supervisor Fleet is responsible for ensuring that all fleet operators and drivers are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and training to perform their duties safely and effectively. This includes:

    • Conducting regular assessments of operator competencies through on-the-job evaluations to ensure machinery is operated in accordance with regulatory standards.
    • Reviewing the performance of WAF-authorised drivers to confirm compliance with relevant laws, the WAF Fleet Manual, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and facilitating awareness training as needed.
    • Identifying and addressing training needs for operators of WAF vehicles and machinery to maintain high operational standards.
    • Providing clear instructions and organizing refresher training sessions to reinforce safe and efficient driving and operating practices.
    • Managing the recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluation of fleet drivers, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism.
  3. Timely, Relevant, and Compliant Reporting
    The Supervisor Fleet is responsible for ensuring that all reporting related to WAF’s fleet is accurate, timely, and compliant with internal and external requirements. This includes:

    • Understanding and fulfilling all reporting obligations concerning WAF’s vehicles and fleet operations.
    • Preparing and submitting robust, relevant, and periodic reports—including monthly reports—as required by management.
    • Providing superiors with insightful data, supported by analysis and interpretation, to aid in informed decision-making.
    • Responding promptly to ad-hoc information requests from management and other stakeholders.
  4. Teamwork and Cooperation
    The Supervisor Fleet is expected to foster a collaborative and supportive working environment across all levels of the organization. This includes:

    • Promoting teamwork and cooperation within the fleet unit and the broader department.
    • Ensuring effective collaboration across different functions and departments to support operational goals.
    • Demonstrating leadership and teamwork to help achieve organizational targets and strategic objectives.
    • Efficiently and effectively carrying out any additional duties assigned by the Team Leader Fleet.
  5. Promotion and Demonstration of Organisational Values
    The Supervisor Fleet is expected to consistently uphold and promote the values and strategic direction of the Water Authority of Fiji. This includes:

    • Ensuring that all deliverables and operational activities are aligned with the organisation’s core values and strategic objectives.
    • Maintaining full compliance with WAF’s corporate governance standards and ethical practices in the execution of duties and delivery of outcomes.
Qualification and Experience Requirement
  • Trade Diploma in Automotive Engineering or a related field with Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent tertiary qualification with substantial industry experience.
  • Trade Certificate in Automotive Mechanical or Automotive Electrical or Automotive Electronics engineering or related fields with Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent tertiary qualification with substantial industry experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
