About Our Organisation

The Water Authority of Fiji is a corporate body established under the Water Authority of Fiji Act 2007 to make provision for the effective management and administration of the Water and the wastewater systems.

We are responsible for providing access to quality drinking water and wastewater services to over 159,000 and 33,540 residential and non-residential metered customers in the urban areas of Fiji and also setting up water supply systems in rural areas.

Position Objective

The Supervisor Wastewater Network is responsible for facilitating and improving the provisioning of wastewater transportation services, supervision of sewer collection, new connections, inspection, audit, verification and maintenance in accordance with best practices. The position reports to Team Leader Wastewater Network

Key Accountabilities
  1. Operational efficiency and effectiveness of WAF is expertly supported
    • Reduction of sewage spills and overflows ensured
    • PSIP submissions on systems improvements prepared
    • Operational efficiencies ensured
      • Operation of pumps maintained as scheduled
      • Standby pumps in all stationed provisioned
      • Work orders updating GIS unit regularly provided
    • Wastewater coverage areas increased
    • All resources within their responsibilities are utilised to the optimum at minimised cost
    • Treatment process monitoring and recording carried out accurately
    • High-level support to the Managers in managing the Operations Unit efficiently provided
      • Changing its culture and developing its operational capacity
    • Scheduling of work activities compiled and implemented
    • Documentation and recording of information accurately provided
    • Administrative duties professionally provided
    • The work and activities of others coordinated efficiently
    • Budget monitored and maintained
    • Strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including the public, and WAF departments established for
      • Timely complaints resolution
      • Efficiently raising awareness of treatment issues and WAF's approach to resolving the same
    • Timely and successfully resolution of all complaints by customers within the stipulated timeframe delivered
      • Effective complaints resolution/management system implemented and continuously strengthened
    • Sewer treatment outcomes duly consider financial risk or gain for WAF
    • Sewer treatment plant operations and upgrading works effectively coordinated and executed in collaboration with relevant Team Leaders, Engineers and Managers
      • Upgrades and new developments effectively assessed and timely contributions to cost/time estimation ensured
    • Timely raising of materials requisition and coordination with stores for timely purchase and delivery ensured
      • Material availability maintained at the required level at all times
    • Quality research and proposals on innovative sewer treatment processes & new methodologies that are applicable to WAF operations led and/or reported to superiors
    • Innovative sewer programs developed and successfully implemented, covering
      • New collections
      • Sewer inspection
      • Sewer verification
      • Water eradication
      • Planned preventative maintenance
    • Wastewater collection in respective districts / corridors appropriately supervised
      • Work schedule developed successfully and delivered
      • Appropriate guidance provided to staff
      • Full compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) maintained by staff
    • Effective planning of the following delivered
      • Waste water operation and maintenances
      • Workforce/staffing
      • Tools & machinery
    • Sewer collection outcomes duly consider financial risk or gain for WAF
    • Efficient and effective delivery of wastewater services to all customers ensured
    • Timely and successful resolution of all complaints by customers within the stipulated timeframe (i.e. 24 hours) delivered
      • Effective complaints resolution/management system implemented and continuously strengthened
      • Strong working relationships with key stakeholders and WAF departments established for timely complaints resolution
    • Wastewater facilitation, work procedures, work personal are OHS compliant
    • Sewer operations and upgrading works effectively coordinated and executed in collaboration with relevant Team Leaders, Engineers and Managers
    • Sewer upgrading works and new developments effectively assessed and timely contributions to cost/time estimation ensured

Qualification and Experience Requirement

The applicant must possess a Diploma in Civil or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline, with five (5) years relevant experiences

Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop cost-effective solutions that are commercially focussed
  • Experience in formulating and implementing operational policies and guidelines
  • Good computer skills in network analysis using software such as auto-cad
  • Demonstrated ability to manage people effectively in a change environment
  • A good understanding of the budgeting process and prescribed expenditure procedures
  • Relevant knowledge of engineering feasibility analyses and design
  • Experience in hydrology and hydraulics
  • Relevant experience in Integrated water management in relation to surface water and groundwater, and quantity and quality, interactions with land and the environment, and interrelationships with social and economic development
  • Relevant experience in planning, design, tender preparation and construction of water/wastewater infrastructure
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to think strategically and holistically
  • Demonstrated experience in formulating and implementing planning and design policies and guidelines
  • Good computer skills in network analysis using software’s such as EPA Net and Microsoft office package.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D
