The Water Authority of Fiji is a corporate body established under the Water Authority of Fiji Act 2007 to make provision for the effective management and administration of the Water and the wastewater systems.
We are responsible for providing access to quality drinking water and wastewater services to over 159,000 and 33,540 residential and non-residential metered customers in the urban areas of Fiji and also setting up water supply systems in rural areas.
The Disbursement Officer is responsible for verifying of payments vouchers prior to payments been made and to provide financial, administrative, support to ensure effective, efficient, and timely functions to the Accounts Payable. The incumbent reports directly to the Financial Accountant.
- Fully compliant Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) functions
- Thorough understanding and execution of relevant Finance procedures as per the related Finance SOP’s and Policies.
- Timely and accurate preparation of EFT batches as per vendor reconciliations
- Appropriate checking/vetting of vendor reconciliation approved for payment.
- Ensure that all statutory payments such as Provisional & Withholding Tax, Salary deductions, PAYE, VAT reversal etc. are processed on time to avoid penalty. WAF has zero tolerance on late payments and penalties.
- Assist with internal & external audit requirements.
- Advising banks via email once EFT batches are sent and uploaded for payment processing.
- Liaise with banks for EFT queries.
- Database and Records for vendor Management Systems maintained.
- Comply with best debt recoveries procedures and policies.
- Timely and correct reconciliation/ reports performed:
- Reconciliation of provisional tax general ledger issues resolved in a timely manner in consultation with relevant parties prior to processing finalizing any necessary journals.
- All correct and relevant supporting source documents attached.
- Weekly actual expenses reports.
- Prepare cash advance acquittals on a weekly basis and provide weekly report.
- Assist with automation processes.
- Current, accurate filing system that ensures records are secured, accessible and always maintained.
- Accounting function effectively supported
- Timely and relevant contribution to the following ensured, as and when required:
- Assist in drafting new accounting procedures.
- Assist in designing reporting templates and new forms
- Timely and relevant contribution to the following ensured, as and when required:
- Timely, relevant, and compliant reporting
- All internal and external requirements regarding the outcomes of this role fully understood and correctly executed.
- Ad-hoc information request by superiors addressed in a timely manner.
- Any other related duties assigned by the Financial Accountant, Senior Accountants, Manager Finance and CFO.

- The Applicant must possess a Degree in Accounting or Finance with at least 2 years relevant experience in disbursements, accounts payable, or a similar role or a Diploma in Accounting or Finance with at least 3 years relevant experience in disbursements, accounts payable, or a similar role.
- Proficient with MS Office software’s and accounting software packages.
- Experience in the critical outcomes of this role is an advantage.
- Highly motivated and organised, with strong work ethics and an inclination to work smart as part of a competent team.

- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and to prioritize work objectives to meet deadlines.
