About Our Organisation

The Water Authority of Fiji is a corporate body established under the Water Authority of Fiji Act 2007 to make provision for the effective management and administration of the Water and the wastewater systems.

We are responsible for providing access to quality drinking water and wastewater services to over 159,000 and 33,540 residential and non-residential metered customers in the urban areas of Fiji and also setting up water supply systems in rural areas.

Position Objective

The Graduate Software Developer provides entry‑level technical support in the development, testing, and maintenance of software applications and digital platforms used by the Water Authority of Fiji.

The role operates under close guidance and supervision of senior ICT staff, offering structured exposure to software development practices within a regulated public utility environment, while building foundational technical and professional skills.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Software & Systems Support
    • Assist senior developers in the development, configuration, and maintenance of internal software applications.
    • Support enhancements, bug fixes, and assigned features in accordance with established coding standards.
    • Assist with web and mobile applications supporting customer services and internal operations
  2. Testing & Deployment Support
    • Support functional testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and basic regression testing under supervision.
    • Assist during system rollouts, pilot deployments, and post‑implementation monitoring.
    • Document test results, issues, and improvements as directed.
  3. ICT Operations & Field Support
    • Assist in basic ICT system support for deployed applications, including installation and configuration.
    • Support troubleshooting activities escalated by field users and operations teams.
    • Participate in supervised field or site visits when required.
  4. Documentation & Compliance
    • Maintain accurate system documentation, user guides, and change logs under direction.
    • Follow WAF ICT policies, data governance requirements, and cybersecurity standards.
    • Escalate identified system issues or risks to senior ICT staff.
  5. Learning & Professional Development
    • Actively participate in training, mentoring, and structured on‑the‑job learning.
    • Develop practical understanding of how ICT systems support water utility operations.
    • Contribute to team knowledge‑sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualification and Experience Requirement
  • The Applicant must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • Recent graduates or candidates with limited experience are eligible.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency or working exposure to one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, PHP, Kotlin, or Dart.
  • Familiarity with at least one modern framework or technology (e.g., React, Flutter, TypeScript, Node.js, or Laravel).
  • Basic understanding of database concepts and SQL (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQLite).
  • Foundational knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC), version control (Git), and basic networking concepts.
  • Understanding of how software, hardware, and network components interact in enterprise or operational technology environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude with an ability to debug and troubleshoot basic technical issues.
